Gift Quilt Reveal, Cross Stitch and Happy Thanksgiving! from The Cozy Quilter

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!  Our daughter and Finn are here for the weekend and we had a turkey dinner with my husband's family today. I put out my pumpkin decorations this week.  I even raked some leaves--it really feels like fall now with cooler temperatures and the trees changing colour.

I'm adding another tree to the Forest cross stitch picture.  It looks a bit odd now but will look better when it is all filled in.

Finn came with us to the farmer's market this morning and I managed to get him to pose in front of the ...

On a Roll from The Cozy Quilter

I have been in the mood to finish some quilts and so I have another finished quilt to show this week.  My yellow and green potato chip quilt is done. I'm calling it "Sunny Day". The striped binding was in my stash.  This quilt will be donated to my MIL's nursing home to be raffled off as a fundraiser. (Another quilt is quilted and will be bound shortly--it is a gift so no pictures yet)

I spent quite a bit of time rug hooking this week and made great progress on my project.  Lots of blue still  and ...

Walking Foot Quilting from The Cozy Quilter

I finished off the quilting and binding of the hollow 9 patch baby quilt earlier this week and got to work on quilting my yellow and green potato chip quilt.  I am using 28 wt green thread on top and white 50 wt thread in the bobbin. This is a bigger quilt so it is taking longer to quilt...more material to manage as I quilt. I will work on this again soon--I'm hoping to have it done to show on next week's blog post.  This is a donation quilt.

And here is the big TaDa!  The hollow ...

Rug Hooking, Knitting and a RSC Baby Quilt in Progress from The Cozy Quilter

After making 6 purple hollow nine patch blocks last week, I took out the bag of blocks that I have made so far this year and discovered that I had enough to make a baby quilt. I took them to the guild sewing day this week and laid them out on the design wall as shown above.  I sewed them together and  today, pin basted it and started the quilting--diagonal lines in both directions through each square.

I'm using 28wt white thread in the top and 50 wt white in the bobbin.  The backing was in my stash.

I ...

Yellow and Green, and some Purple too. from The Cozy Quilter

Purple is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour this month. I was not sure if I had enough 2.5" squares to make six blocks--my purple stash is sparse, but I managed to get my blocks done without getting a friend to donate some scraps to my project.  I have 48 blocks made so far--this might be enough. I will have to lay them out and see how they look.

My sewing time this week has been spent working on the yellow and green potato chip quilt.  This quilt will be donated to the nursing home where my MIL lives for ...

Home from the Cottage, again! from The Cozy Quilter

My husband and I, our daughter and Finn spent the last week at a cottage.  One week sure does go by fast, but we managed to fill our days with reading, sitting on the dock, rughooking, knitting (me),  crocheting and cross stitch(my daughter).  We went to a farmers market and into town to do some shopping one day but just spent the rest of the time relaxing at the cottage.

Finn loved napping in a chair on the screened in porch.  As you can see, I did a fair bit of hooking on my pitcher plant picture.

I finished ...

Binding and Finn's Approval from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy week and I have not had much time to sew but I did manage to hand sew the bindings on the two quilts I showed in my last post.  The shadow box quilt has gray binding, the same as the shadows on the quilt.

Finn approves of the potato chip baby quilt.

Here is a close up of the backing fabric--I love the paper boats print!

My daughter's book blanket is coming along with nine new squares added in February.

These squares represent two books read in March so far.

Here are the books ...

Just Got Home from a Quilting Retreat! from The Cozy Quilter

Three days and two nights of quilting!  I always bring more with me than I can possibly do while I am at a retreat but I like to have options in case I feel like changing projects.  However, by the time I left today, I only had one project that I did not touch.  Much was accomplished!  I started out slowly with a warm up projects.  I am making nine patch blocks for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge project this year.  March's colour is yellow.  They are a bit brighter than they appear in this picture.  The lighting in the ...

Arizona Quilt Top and Deer Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

I put my Arizona quilt blocks together and it is now a completed top--36"square.  Before assembly, I remade a couple of the four patches. If you look closely, you can see that the cacti are now mirror images of the adjacent block in the next quadrant.  Anal, I know, but I didn't like how it looked before.

I also worked on the walking foot quilting on the second potato chip baby quilt.  It is about 3/4 done and I hope to finish it this week and get the binding on.  One more of these tops to quilt ...

Another Secret Project Reveal and Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

There was no blog post last weekend as Christine and I were at a crafter's retreat at Camp Kintail.  There were other people sewing, knitting, crocheting, paper crafting, card making, painting, rug hooking, etc.  Lots of interesting projects to walk around to look at when I had been sitting for too long! I worked on several projects, one of which was a gift and will not be revealed until after Christmas.  I quilted two baby quilts--one of which you can see in the picture below.  It is not quite done yet and I hope to finish it off this ...

A Busy Week from The Cozy Quilter

Ta Da!  My Put a Ring On It is done!  I took this class during QuiltCon Together in February 2021 with Latifah Saffir, using her clammy rulers.  I had the top done reasonable quickly but could not decide how I wanted to quilt it.  This quilt kept telling me to hand quilt it, which I ignored until this Spring.  By then, it was screaming to be hand quilted so I got to work.  I used 28 wt Aurifil thread in green for the big stitch quilting.  I'm really happy with this project! I will be hanging it on the ...

On a Roll! from The Cozy Quilter

For some reason, I was really in the mood to sew this week.  It was too hot or rainy outside so I spent my time in my sewing room, playing with fabric.  I finished hand quilting my Put a Ring On It wall hanging, trimmed it and added the binding by machine.  I will work on hand stitching the binding tomorrow. I can't believe how much I enjoyed hand quilting this project...maybe I will have to do some more hand quilting again soon.

I also finished the cross stitching on my Lupins project and I have started the ...
